Chris Pine sued for millions by ex-agents

Chris Pine dumped them and now they are suing him. How’s that for a ‘break-up’ story?

Last November, the Star Trek actor wrote agency SDB Partners a Dear John email after a nine-year relationship, where the agents had held his hand through guest slots on ER and CSI: Miami, from his film debut in 2004’s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement and to nabbing a role in Star Trek and new rom-com This Means War alongside Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon.

"Pine did not even have the courtesy of picking up the telephone to tell SDB that he was ending their relationship of nine years," they said in their suit claims.

So it’s understandable that his former agents aren’t taking this break-up sitting down, and have sued the young Captain Kirk for millions in commissions.

They have alleged that Pine hasn’t forked over the 10% agreed commission for Star Trek and two dozen other projects.

"Through this lawsuit, SDB seeks to not only recover its commissions on millions of dollars that Pine has already earned, but also the millions of dollars that Pine will continue to earn as a result of SDB's prior hard work and dedication to Pine's career," the lawsuit stated.

It also explains how the agency took on the then unknown actor in 2002 when "nobody was willing to touch Pine".

It also revealed Pine’s earnings for his roles in Unstoppable where he earned USD3mil (RM9.1mil) and USD5mil (RM15.2mil) for This Means War.

In the email, Pine explained he “was frustrated and needed more than what I was getting from the agency."

He described the decision as "agonizing" and recognized "what great advocates you have been for me and that you have invested your time and energy into building my career."
