“If I knew the party was going to be this big, I would have come earlier,” says Shuichi, mechanical student from Japan currently studying in a private college in Sunway.

Shuichi is one of the 2,500-odd people who ushered the New Year at a party organised by Future Sounds Asia at KL Life Centre on New Year’s Eve.

“I have been to rave parties in Japan, but I must say that the party here in Malaysia has got more energy compared to home,” says Shuichi.

Ethan Curzon and Darren Lok who have been best buddies for 14 years say that this is their first time at a rave party with big names DJs such
as DJ Goldfish, Lapsap and Bloody Beetroots.

The party started at 9pm with DJ Goldfish on the set.

About two hours before we leapt into the next decade, the hall which could easily fill 3,000 people, was almost packed with revellers.

Lapsap (well known for their wild mix of music created quite a stir in the scene a year back) brought the crowd past midnight with confetti and CO2 cannons were at full blast.

The party continued past midnight when Bloody Beetroots took the crowd on an electro-addled rock ride.

After two hours or so, Bloody Beetroots handed the set over to DJ Goldfish and Lapsap to bring the party down a notch.

The crowd cheered on when one of the Bloody Beetroots duo got back on stage and continued hyping up the crowd.

Keean, who came together with his coursemate from Damansara, said: “It is our fist time celebrating New Year together. It’s fun and what’s more, with your friends and international big names like Bloody Beetroots.”

The music was hard, ear-splitting, electronic rock and roll for the young late night crowd. If this is your scene, be sure to check out Basement Jaxx which is happening Saturday (Jan 2).
