The stuntman planning an outer-space-to-Earth jump has branded it a mission to the "death zone".

The Red Bull action man aims to be the first human to break the sound barrier unaided by machine when he falls an unprecedented 120,000ft from a giant balloon over New Mexico, US, in August.

He said: "Once I jump there's no turning back. If the life-support system fails there'll only be one result.

"Racing drivers can enter the pits if things go wrong. For me there's no way out."

The Austrian, 42, was releasing full details of his multi-million-pound Stratos project. He will wear an astronaut-style oxygen suit to protect him from temperatures of -70°C in the near-vacuum.

It will also save him from the extreme pressure as he tops 800mph. But a leak would make his eyes boil and his heart explode.

Felix said: "People ask why I want to do it. I just feel breaking this sound barrier record is in the same league as being the first man on the moon or the first to climb Everest." - www.thesun.co.uk
