Ferguson denies he is a 'Red Knight'
MU gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson has denied a report that he will be supporting the 'Red Knights' consortium that is planning to take over Manchester United football club.
On Sunday, Observer newspaper in United Kingdom said Ferguson would back the group of wealthy United fans as they put together a potential buyout of the Glazer family, while there were suggestions the United manager would be prepared to invest his own money in the club if the bid succeeds, agencies reported.
Lots of United fans, who are against the Glazers over the club's massive debts, have worn the colours of Newton Heath, the club which predated United, which are green and gold as a sign of protest.
The Manchester United Supporters Trust have reported a membership of more than 100,000 supporters registered.
Meanwhile, agencies reported that the Red Knights, a group of leading City financiers want to raise more than one billion pounds to seize control at Old Trafford.
But Ferguson, who is friendly with one 'Red Knight' - Goldman Sachs chief economist Jim O'Neill, rejected any supposed involvement in the takeover as he said: "It's absolute rubbish. There's not an ounce of truth in it."
AFP reported a United spokesman echoing Ferguson's denial and said: "The Glazer family and the manager enjoy 100 percent trust in each other."
United chief executive David Gill this week insisted the Glazers had no wish to sell despite the massive debts incurred in their controversial takeover.
